How to Use a Coldpack
A cold pack provides temporary pain relief by cooling the skin and underlying tissues, helping to reduce swelling and inflammation. It has a numbing effect by slowing down nerve activity, which can temporarily dull pain signals. However, it’s important to remember that a cold pack does not treat the root cause of pain—it simply provides short-term relief.
Note: A cold pack relieves pain but does not address the root cause. Consider it a temporary aid, not a cure.
- Always wrap the coldpack in a towel or cloth before applying it to your skin.
- Use the coldpack for 15–20 minutes at a time.
- Do not apply it to open wounds or broken skin.
- Be careful not to resume your (sports) activity immediately after cooling, as you may experience less pain at that moment.
